localization is a process in which a product and/or service are adjusted for use according in a specific language, culture and local visual preferences.
The Localization Process
The process of localizing various services and products is different from ordinary translation. It is intended to adjust the translated material for use in a different language, in a different culture, and even according to the particular aesthetic preferences of the target audience. For this reason, localization is more than just ordinary translation. It is, in fact, the creation of an almost entirely new version of the product or service, including almost all of its components and aspects, in a manner which will correspond, in every respect, to the usage preferences and cultural or organizational context of its future users.
Furthermore, the localization process cannot come at the expense of the material’s relevance and functionality, and must also maintain the validity of code, and the unique characteristics of the marketing message. Professionally done localization allows products and services to be received in the new target market easily and naturally. This of course involves strategic and marketing implications, based on a very simple guideline: people don’t buy what they don’t understand.
Globus Translations has many years of experience in localization, which allows us to provide you with a broad platform of first-rate linguistic solutions.
Terminology Management
Every company has its own unique jargon that is uses during work. This language can be based on organizational culture, on a particular industry or market segment, or on the organization’s marketing strategy.
The process of tailoring the product / service to the needs of its future users always involves important and central terms which must be translated in a manner which is appropriate for you, and which will accord with your organization’s values and organizational “language”. For this very purpose, we at Globus Translations ensure to perform a stage involving “term management”, from the start of the project. A lexicon of terms is always created at the start of the translation process, and is usually expanded at least once per year, as needed, based on the scope of the work. This stage is critical to the localization process, since it can mean the difference between meeting deadlines and having to postpone a product launch, or other problems.
Additionally, terminology management serves as the basis for coordinating expectations between us and our customers, already at the start of the project, while creating a basic set of agreed-upon terms, which will be used through the entire project. These terms are updated by us in a designated database which is created for you, and which is used by our staff to ensure uniformity in all translations, both now and in the future.
Translation
Once the lexicon creation process has concluded, the actual translation work begins. for the avoidance of doubt, not everyone who speaks two languages can translate. The art of translation requires extensive professional knowledge regarding the translated text, as well as linguistic knowledge and cultural understanding of both the language and culture of the source language, and the language and culture of the target language. These are the main parameters which are required in order to ensure an excellent translation, which is why we at Globus Translations require them of all our translators. Our preliminary analysis of the text requiring translation allows us to choose the most suitable translator for each project, in accordance with the required expertise and language. Globus Translations’ translation team includes over 700 translators, from all over the world. This allows us to be highly available, and to respond to nearly every requirement of our customers, while providing professional translations, individually tailored to the needs of the target audience, and on time.
Editing
similarly to any process which undergoes a quality control process before going to market, we believe that a proper translation should also undergo a control process before being sent to our customers. Each translation job is evaluated by an expert translation editor on our behalf, who ensures that the translation has been done according to the required grammatical rules, and using the appropriate terminology for the market / as determined in advance vis-à-vis the customer. This allows us to ensure that our customers get the very best translations, every time.
Engineering
Localization processes are performed using technological tools, known in the industry as translation memory tools (“TM tools”). These tools create more efficient and effective work flows, including on large projects including many different languages.
Our analysis of the source files allows us to identify repetitions within the same text, and also relative to previous translations. This allows the creation of a rapid and effective learning process, by building a database of translations. This aspect also allows us to maintain uniformity and a high level of translation, and manage the translation content for our customers over time, thereby offering financial savings and faster timetables.
Globus Translations has chosen memoQ as its main tool to provide the technological process which accompanies the entire localization process.
QA
After the translation and editing process, it is important to ensure that the translation has been done in the best, most readable way possible, within the context of the material – whether in terms of software, or in any other platform. This process includes the performance of several tests, including: ensuring the correspondence of dialog boxed and text fields throughout the entire target language; ensuring the correspondence between individual sentences and the general content; evaluating text directionality; cosmetic evaluations of the text; etc. These tests constitute the final approval process for the customer, in order to ensure that the language proceeded for our product is correct and optimal, and to ensure that your product is ready to be sent out into the world.
